Is yoga overrated?

What are some of the things we can rate? A rating is possible for objects, processes, investments, attributes etc., which are materialistic and therefore transient in nature. Yoga is a lifestyle which seeks to take you to an elevated level of life and  living. There is NO question of yoga being overrated. Yoga is a way of life which brings in flexibility and strength at the physical, mental and emotional level paving the way for a more fulfilling and happy  life.

What is extremely fascinating about yoga is that it is accessible to one and all. The only prerequisite for you is that you need to be breathing and alive to do Yoga! Anyone who wants to get into the yoga path can happily do so without  any credentials. One can start from wherever they are and at whatever level one is and slowly and steadily progress in their  yoga journey.

Yoga surely helps in making us more mindful  in our lives and brings in clarity in our thought process. Yoga breaks down resistances in us at the body, mind and breath level resulting in a much more joyous, light  and healthy way of life. Yoga helps us in achieving that which was  unattainable , and also helps in the  preservation of what has been attained by us.

Therefore , Yoga is actually  underrated, and many people are still  unaware of its huge potential in making our lives richer and more fulfilling. Some people get put off by yoga because of their bad experiences arising out of going to an incompetent teacher or a badly run yoga studio or scamsters and frauds pretending to be ‘Gods of Yoga’ .  Some other people expect miracles and  over – night results of weight loss or being able to perform advanced postures immediately  . It’s not Yoga which is to be blamed but the wrong choice of teacher, place or the unrealistic expectations one has.

Learning and exploring yoga with the right teacher and in a proper yoga centre or  studio will bring out the beauty of this amazing  lifestyle. Yoga learnt and practiced under a qualified experienced teacher in a congenial environment will open untapped avenues in us and refine us to reach great heights!
