What is the best place for doing yoga?

Answered by | Mimi Partha Sarathy, Founder & Senior Yoga Teacher

Yoga is an extremely individualistic journey. Classical scriptures have given us a lot of information on what the best place for doing Yoga is. Bhagavad Gita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Acharya Krishnamacharya have given the various features of an ideal place for practicing yoga.

A person doing his personal practice should do so alone in a solitary place. There should be the least amount of noise and the place should not be too brightly lit or too windy. It should be a clean place and the seat should be firm, not too high or low. The practitioner should control his senses and concentrate completely on his practice.

A person seeking a place for group class should look for a place which is airy, well ventilated, well-lit and clean. There should be enough room in the hall so that each person has enough space in the front, back and the sides to move comfortably.

The place should have serene surroundings and the noise levels should be minimal.
