How can you start to build muscle and lose weight with yoga?

There are many ways to build muscles and lose weight. Yoga is one of the most effective ways to achieve both these goals. A good  Yoga practice with the proper techniques and process  is very effective as it seeks to build muscles and lose weight without any side effects and injuries to the practitioner. And yoga practice over a period of time goes beyond just the physical wellbeing and seeks to bring the practitioner to an elevated level at the body, breath and mind level.

The Asana limb of yoga is an excellent starting point for any practitioner. The yoga asana practice is all about creating new body patterns and placing the body in a well thought out intelligent manner to reduce and remove blockages in our body paving the way for a smooth flow of life energy in the body. Asana practice seeks to decrease and eliminate resistances at the body breath and mind level over a period of time so that all toxins are removed and our body starts functioning more smoothly and strongly. Asanas practised in the right way with complete breath coordination result in lightness of the body, steadiness and stability and good health by reducing ailments and diseases.

The yoga asana practised continuously over a long period of time with complete devotion and enthusiasm enables the body to operate at its 100% potential. The dynamic practice of asanas help in improving one’s flexibility and the static postures helps in building strength.  And the loss of weight and muscle building are by products of this asana practice.

The pranayama limb of yoga is an extremely effective tool to remove toxins and undigested matter from our body and paves the way for the mind to achieve a highly focused state of concentration. The regulation of breath practised under the guidance of an experienced and qualified teacher over a sustained period of time helps in losing weight.

These two limbs of yoga practised diligently in a sustained manner have an extremely positive  and calming impact on the practitioner. He becomes extremely mindful in all his actions paving the way for a disciplined lifestyle, especially with his or her eating habits which is most important for weight management. Yoga practice enables a person to eat the right things at the right time in the right quantity. It also has a positive impact on sleep patterns. And all this in turn contribute to a healthy life.
